Separate Ceramic and Carbon Filter Elements: The silver impregnated cleanable ceramic element is effective against bacteria, protozoa, algae, silt, fungi, and viruses attached to 0.2 microns or larger particles. In addition, replaceable activated carbon will reduce iodine, chlorine, pesticides, and other chemicals, and can actually improve the taste of water. Note that the ceramic element can be used alone, and the carbon cartridge need only be if the water contains chemicals or has a bad taste.
